extracting my brain

Created: August 07, 2026

what up internet,

i've had way too much caffeine today so now i have a whole lot of pent up thoughts that i want to spew out (ew).

themes

anyway, i recently rewatched cgp grey's video on setting themes and was feeling inspired to seriously give it a try. a little late, since it's august, but i don't think it would hurt to try (i may even extend it for 2027 so i can cleanly start with a new yearly theme for 2028). i have set this year's theme as the year of creativity. fairly broad, but it made sense to me because creativity is one of the main aspect i've been struggling with personally.

this fall...

i have also set a seasonal theme... this fall will be the fall of writing! i believe writing would be a good theme this season since i kinda think of it to be the foundation for all creative mediums. you can't really draw characters without a good backstory and you can't make moving music without some sort of direction. i mean, you can make art without any writing involved, but i feel writing helps communicate purpose to stuff.

this doesn't just apply to just creative writing, though. i want to write more notes, more journals, and more of these blog posts. i tend to internalize a lot of my ideas, and writing my thoughts down would help with self-reflection.

plus it's easy enough to "learn to write" relative to learning music theory or spending years on developing an art style. i guess if you were to pick at nuances, writing well can be viewed as difficult - but, for me, it's easy enough to dump information from my brain to the computer in a semi-structured way.

i really hope that this theme strategy helps me stay on track with my long term goals. i have it on my obsidian vault's home screen as a reminder.
